BAM Labs® Smart Bed Technology® Solution
Using the BAM Labs Smart Bed Technology solution, healthcare professionals and care providers can monitor an individual or a group of people at all times while performing their daily duties whether in an acute, post-acute or home health setting. The Smart Bed Technology solution is an effective tool for: validated position change to reduce pressure ulcer incidence; bed exits and bed exit trends and in-bed motion monitoring for fall prevention programs; and vital trends data to support early recognition of changes of condition. Care providers can also review long term trend data for adverse sleep patterns, resting heart and respiration rate trends, bed-presence activity and overall sleep quality. This information relates directly to care improvement measures being evaluated by state and accreditation auditors. In addition, implementation of the BAM Labs solution can create a basis for formation of a quality improvement program or augmentation of one already in place. The FDA registered BAM Labs Smart Bed Technology sensor mat is placed under any mattress and continuously detects trends in heart rate and respiration rate, motion and presence. Biometric data is automatically transmitted to the BAM Labs HIPAA-compliant Smart Bed cloud platform where it is analyzed and returned, packaged in powerful, user-friendly applications viewable on any internet-connected device. Pressure ulcers are one of the most challenging, yet often preventable problems in healthcare worldwide. Pressure ulcers have physical, emotional and financial costs, making prevention an imperative. The financial cost for pressure ulcers in the U.S. have been reported as high as $11 billion annually. The expenses for treatment of pressure ulcers acquired in a facility are borne by the facility themselves.

Falls pose a serious risk for those living in acute care, rehabilitation care and long-term care facilities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that a typical nursing home facility with 100 beds reports 100 to 200 falls annually.
